Super Bowl Babies

They could have cared less that there were was a lot of awesome food (Korean tacos! yum!) or a football game, but the babies did seem to enjoy getting to play with lots of people. I enjoyed getting to lay on teh floor and take some pictures before they were too tired to play. I adore these 10 month old babies – the cheeks, the leg rolls, the smiles, the drool…. thanks for the baby fix (oh and the football party too!)

5th birthday with friends

Nora’s excitement for her 5th birthday was palpable. She was very excited to have her girlfriends from school together to play for an afternoon. It warms my heart to watch Nora with her friends she is so very social and had a great time at her party this Sunday.

8th birthday with friends

I cannot believe that my little boy is 8 years old. I know all moms say that as their kids grow but there is something about actually experiencing it that is a bit unreal. It is especially notable when they are among their friends. It is like a window into a different world. I don’t get tjat world AT ALL, but it is fun (though maybe a bit perplexing) to watch. He invited his entire class to his birthday party today and they had a great time swimming and being really silly…. I watched amazed. 8 years old wow!

Christmas at Home

We celebrated christmas at home by having breakfast treats, openings presents, playing with new toys, eating pizza for lunch and hanging our together while staying in our jammies all day. I was most excited to give the kids new cameras. They have anjoyed their previous cameras in spurts and I wanted to get them something that would produce some printable results. I love seeing the world through their eyes and and I full adknowledge that the gift was just as much for me as it was for them.

The thing I love the most about the photos the kids took is that for both of them the first photo was of the other….

The kids got many gifts they enjoyed a lot – I don’t mean to take away from the lego Mindstorms Ben got (jrh was most excited about this present) or his new wii game or Nora’s Playmobile swimming pool. Josh and I got some great gfits as well, but honestly the best part was just being together and not having anywhere to go or anyone to see….. it was the start to a great holiday break.

Trick or Treating (and a bit of a historical tour)

For as long as we have had kids, we have trick or treated with the Brutlers (not their real name just how they are known around our house). Over the years the kids have grown and my low light photography skills have improved dramatically but our Halloween night date has remained the same. It is actually quite embarrassing to post these. but I felt compelled tonight to pull together a retrospective. Enjoy.

Makes me so happy to look at these photos. I know at some point they will want to go without us. Though I secretly ope that maybe we can rope in the Macenbergs (again our made up name for them) and convince our kids to stay with us long enough to help with the triplets. But no use thinking about the future, we had a good time tonight. Everybody tolerated me and my camera.

‘Twas the night before Halloween

and all through our house there were preparations for the big event. Well, the preparations have been happening for quite sometime as grandma has lovingly sewn and assembled the necessary items for the transformation of our children to a princess and a ninja (thanks again mom). The kids were waiting all day for the arrival of their grandparents (and the costumes) and proceeded to excitedly try everything on (which was handy for me because I could photograph them today and not worry about it too much tomorrow). The costumes turned out great and it was hard to tell them they had to take them off so that they would be looking great tomorrow because I know that they are seriously excited.

We also carved pumpkins (nothing like leaving it to the last minute – but hey they are not all squirrel eaten or rotten for the big day) and had a family dinner….. even though there was a lot of anticipation in the air…. it is still the calm before the storm… or do I mean the post trick or treat sugar meltdown!

Kittens, Goats, and Pumpkins! Oh My.

On one of the most beautiful fall Saturday afternoons, our family went to Schuster’s Playtime Farm. We’ve been there almost every year since Ben was little. It is great to watch the farm expand its activities every year and even though we could have spent all day playing, we had just a few hours because I had a shoot in the morning. But we packed a lot into our time: jumping, climbing, barrel riding, kitten holding, goat feeding, chicken ogling, corn mazing, pumpkin picking and apple cider doughnut eating!

I almost didn’t bring my camera because I feel like it is an appendage during the busy fall season. But I did lick off my sugary doughnut fingers long enough to snap a few photos.
